The first Angel Tree was created by The Salvation Army in 1979 by Majors Charles and Shirley White when they worked with a Lynchburg, Virginia shopping mall to provide clothing and toys for children at Christmastime. They placed the cards on a Christmas tree at the mall to allow shoppers to select children to help. First Congregational Church’s Angel Tree is now a long standing tradition, serving both the Salvation Army and the Louison House Family Life Support Center.
It is never too late to say “thank you” to all who supported our Angel Tree project at Christmas time! The tags (30 in all) were all taken up and wishes and needs fulfilled with care and concern by many of you! Thank you as well for monetary donations along with one from the Outreach Team that allowed us to include local bus passes and gift cards for those at the Louison House.
