September marks a new beginning for those heading back to school either as students or educators. For First Congregational Church, September marks the culmination of several important parts of church life. First, on September 9, we’ll welcome hundreds (maybe thousands) of community members into the church for our annual tag sale. This remarkable environmental effort (every notebook or pen or travel mug or laundry basket or desk lamp sold is something that doesn’t end up in a landfill) is also a remarkable fundraising effort and, triply, a remarkable team effort for the church.
Many members, chief among them our tireless tag sale chiefs, Jody Green, Annie Parkman, and Cynthia Payne, put in countless hours sorting, cleaning, pricing, moving, and more to make this effort a success. Your help in the next few weeks and on the day of the sale is the key to holding this annual event. If you have an hour or several to spare, please think about helping with the tag sale.
Another important fundraiser concludes in September — the church’s capital campaign. More than 60 households have made a gift or pledge to this campaign to renew the meetinghouse. At this point, participation is the key metric of success for the campaign and we hope all will find a way to make a gift to this once-in-a-lifetime effort for First Church. Gifts or pledges of any size are welcome and will bring us closer to our participation goal.
YOU make the difference in the tag sale and the capital campaign. Thanks for being a part of both!
